MUSIC FOR A LIFETIME BEGINS HERE

Instruments

Piano performance in all styles of music is a focus at our school, as well as the world of electronic keyboard instruments. The programmable electronic keyboards used in our classrooms allow your child to experience an incredible variety of sounds ranging from the classical violin to the modern electric guitar. Whether performing solos, or as part of an ensemble, children love the sophisticated music they experience right from the start.  These instruments are a powerful motivator and an incredible tool for developing exciting arrangements.  They aid in student's creativity, helping them arrange and compose beyond simple piano solos. We also teach overall technic and musicality, creating very expressive, accomplished pianists as well.

Creating Music For Tomorrow

About KEYBOARD MUSIC WORKS

Keyboard Music Works has introduced thousands of children to the world of music for over 20 years in the Detroit area.  We believe that ALL children have an innate ability to learn, enjoy, and express themselves with music.  We currently have over 200 students in more than 30 classes at various levels, starting as young as 3 years of age.  We have students who drive over 45 miles for years of lessons with us because of this unique musical experience.  Yamaha’s philosophy is not only to teach children how to play instruments, but to also learn how to study and create music through arranging and composition.  We are a leader in teaching composition with state and national winners in various competitions each year.  Our graduates excel in all genres of music as well as being very successful at learning additional instruments in bands and orchestras.  Many of our students are featured as soloists in choirs and musical productions at their schools and churches due to the vocal work they receive in our classes.  Our programs provide your child with a uniquely comprehensive approach, way beyond what is learned in typical private piano lessons, with students who are motivated for years by their classmates, all in an atmosphere that is nurturing, rewarding, and fun.

Setting the Stage for a Lifetime of Music

Performance Opportunities

Yamaha classes offer a unique opportunity for students to not only play solos in front of their classmates, but to play comfortably in many ensemble situations.  We believe in not only teaching our students music, but teaching them to be musicians, with additional performance and learning experiences offered beyond our weekly classes.  All Yamaha students perform solos and ensembles at over twenty Group Recitals each year.  We have an Annual Composition Recital, featuring our composers for the year.  We showcase our most advanced students and Yamaha graduates in impressive private recitals each year.  We encourage our students to participate in various local and national competitions in performance and composition, often getting recognition even at the National level.  We arrange fun performing experiences in public places, such as a Mall, to help our students feel proud of their accomplishments each year.

In Spring 2010 we had 110 students, ranging in age from 5 to 18, perform over 575 songs at a movie theatre.  There were requirements for each age to earn a movie pass.  This taught our students how to prepare for a job as a musician.  We love to find ways to teach our students how to perform and prepare for gigs in their present and future musical lives.

Workshops

At Keyboard Music Works we take pride in not only teaching our students how to play music, but also how to be a musician.  We have various workshops and groups that meet throughout the year to help students develop their musical abilities and interests even more.  They are:

PEACEKEEPERS CHOIR

The students who are part of this choir want to learn how to use their musical abilities as a singer, composer, or accompanist.  They want to learn how to be a vocal soloist, or be a part of an impressive choir.  The choir gives students of all ages at our school opportunities to shine, with the older students mentoring and motivating the younger students.  The focus of our songs is on peace, love, and acceptance and we perform at various events to spread that message.

POP/JAZZ WORKSHOPS

The students who attend these workshops want to learn how to improvise, understand keyboard harmony, and learn how to apply their knowledge in order to play in various pop/jazz styles.  They may want to learn how to sing lead or harmony.  They learn what all parts of a pop/rock/jazz band play and their role in the group.

COMPOSITION WORKSHOPS

We love to learn from talented composers and musicians in the area, with workshops on various composition techniques, and/or master classes with composition specialists commenting on our students compositions, helping them understand how to create more effectively.  Topics include compositional technics, as well as software and instrument skills to notate and record student's ideas.
