Music for Kids
The Music for Kids program was developed as a first musical experience for children at a preschool age. MFK carries out the Yamaha concepts of group learning: ear first, the keyboard as the learning tool and age appropriate activities for skill development. This is a great way to try music with your child in a noncompetitive stress free environment and can be an incredible first step toward many years of fun in the Yamaha classes. With this strong background, our MFK students then move on to Junior Music Course at age 4 or 5. Junior Music Course
The Junior Music Course is designed to capitalize on the young child’s natural characteristics (spontaneity, curiosity, pleasure at being in a group situation and boundless energy) to teach music skills. The teacher involves the children in musical activities appropriate for their age, including singing songs with words, singing solfege, playing the keyboard, moving to music, actively listening to music through stories and reading music at a beginning level. The course provides an incomparable foundation for any future direction in music. This can be a wonderful experience for you and your child with quality and fun time spent together reaching your musical goals. Graduates of the Junior Music Course take the Junior Extension Course for the next 2 years with added creative work and more musical challenges appropriate to their skill level and age. Young Musicians Course
The goal of the Young Musicians Course is to develop each student’s overall musicianship in a fun, creative environment. Since the children can read, there is more visual work and more keyboard playing to take advantage of their more highly developed coordination. The group becomes a musical ensemble which generates individual effort. Throughout the course, improvisation, arranging and composing skills are introduced, which is a much greater learning experience when shared with others. Musicland for 3 and 4 year olds. A first musical adventure! The children and their parents follow a story through 4 weekly 30-minute classes. Each child will receive a coloring book that corresponds to the lesson. Activities include movement to music, singing, simple keyboard playing and musical concepts. This class exposes preschoolers to music in a fun, age-appropriate way. Parent participation is required. $25 Keyboard Explorers for 5 & 6 year olds. Watch your young beginner explore the keyboard in this fun, innovative class. Your child will learn simple note reading and keyboard playing. In addition, the students learn musical concepts and experience rhythm through movement to music and playing rhythm instruments. The children also develop a great “ear” for music and strengthen their singing voices as they learn solfege (do,re,mi). 4 one-hour weekly classes. Parent participation is required. $50. Pop Sounds for 7 – 10 year olds. A unique group approach with an emphasis on keyboard playing. The class includes ensemble playing, ear training, rhythm patterns, singing and creativity as well as traditional reading. 4 one-hour weekly classes. Parent participation is encouraged but not required. $50. All summer classes are scheduled to begin the week of July 9th and will run for 4 consecutive weeks.
