ADVANCED CLASSES make the most of the unique aspects of our Yamaha students.  We study technic and theory together, then learn to apply those skills and knowledge in creative ways by arranging, improvising, and composing music.  We study more challenging classical music, and learn to critique each other, which helps our students become better performers and musicians.  We study different styles of music, and learn incredible ensembles, sounding like an orchestra, jazz group, or rock band.  All of this, with the added excitement of learning with musical friends and growing from each others progress.
COMPETITIONS
Our advanced students grow from many different performance opportunities.
  • Many of our students enter National Federation of Music Clubs local competition where they receive ratings on their performance from a judge.
  • Some of our students also work toward a higher goal, entering the Michigan Music Teachers Student Achievement Test, where they perform three pieces for a judge, take a sight reading, technic, music theory, and listening test at more advancing levels each year.
  • Some of our composers enter their school's Reflections Contest or Yamaha's Junior Original Concert, often winning at Local, Regional, and National levels.

INSTRUMENT

As students advance, it is really important that they have a quality instrument to practice on. Instruments with weighted keys become more important, to aid in developing good piano technic, and expressive piano playing.  A high level acoustic piano aids in the development of classical music.  A high level digital piano aids in creative endeavors, giving students the ability to record their ideas, add additional instruments, create arrangements, etc.
